At MRI Plus, we offer Multi-parametric MRI (mpMRI) of the prostate. This advanced technique combines different types of MRI sequences (T2-weighted, diffusion-weighted, and dynamic contrast-enhanced) to provide a comprehensive look at the gland. It is far more accurate than traditional MRI in identifying clinically significant prostate cancers.
This scan is typically recommended if:
A prostate MRI can often help patients avoid unnecessary invasive biopsies. If the MRI shows a "clear" prostate (PIRADS 1 or 2), the risk of significant cancer is very low. If a lesion is found, the MRI provides a roadmap for a "targeted" biopsy, which is much more precise than a random systematic biopsy.
To ensure the most accurate results:
The scan takes about 30 to 45 minutes. You will lie on your back, and a small device (surface coil) will be placed over your pelvis. In most cases, a contrast agent (gadolinium) is injected intravenously toward the end of the scan to highlight blood flow within the prostate.
Your prostate MRI will be analyzed by a specialist radiologist using the PI-RADS (Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System) scoring. This detailed report will give your urologist the clear information needed to decide on the best course of action.
Our expert clinical team will guide you through the process, with a 1-1 consultation, referral, and digital imaging report included in the price of your scan booking.
